The other day I downloaded 20 Minutes That Could Change Your Life by Earl Nightingale and even though it isn’t quite 20 minutes long, it was still the best 99 cents I’ve spent in a while.
One key observation really stands out for me. He says that only about 10% of the population are really trying to get rich. The rest are just sort of hanging in there. What this means is that the very fact that you are really putting in effort puts you above 90% of the world and that even if you come in at the bottom of the 10% who are trying, you are still doing pretty good.
On a personal note, my wife and kids are going to be gone for the next 5 days so I’m going to use this opportunity to get a lot of work done.
I don’t know about you but I have a bad habit of setting crazy goals. Just this morning I wrote down everything I wanted to do by the end of the month and it was enough to make my head explode. For example, I put down that I wanted to finish two sites. Based on what I have in my head, that would be over 200 new web pages. With about 10 days left in the month, that comes to about 20 pages a day. *bangs head on desk*
This mountain of work pretty much put a damper on the rest of the day. How the hell would I be able to come up with 20 content rich, original pages a day? The simple answer is that I can’t – this is one goal that just isn’t realistic.
Instead, I decided to make scaled down versions of the site and then add to them throughout June. This way they would be functional sooner PLUS I’d be able to add content regularly and Google loves it when you do that. It’s not the idea solution but it will get the job done.
I just read that American Express will be liberating 4,000 more people this year on top of a previously reported 7,000. These are people who probably thought that since they had a good job with a big company that they would be safe. Nothing, of course, could be further from the truth.
Without sounding like I’m trying to rub it in, I’d like to say this to the people who are being liberated: Good luck finding another job, there aren’t any but that’s okay – but you can make money on your own and now is a great time to get started.
One thing I try to do is to break down my big goals into a series of little ones. Sometimes these steps can be as small as one new blog post or one new web page. Alone, those simple tasks don’t really count for much but when you add them all up, wow, now you are getting somewhere.
There is a catch, however, and it is this: I try to do everything as perfectly as I can. Sure, I screw up as much as anyone but if my successes outnumber my failures, then I’ve done alright.
Now that I think about it there is one more catch and that is that you mustn’t spend a crazy amount of time on any one thing. If you do, you end up bogging down your entire plan. There comes a time when you have to be done with whatever it is and move on.
Every day in the news you hear doom and gloom about how bad the economy is and how high the unemployment rate is. It’s a load of crap, if you ask me and my sites (Tell Your Boss to Shove It and Get Rich Click) prove it. Whenever I hear someone complain about losing their job or getting their hours or pay cut, I just want to grab them and shake them and tell them to go to my sites and start making money… but I don’t. (Maybe I should.)
Please, people, don’t get sucked into the global sickness which has now consumed our nation. There are plenty of ways to make money. There are millionaire being made every single day. You could be one of those people if you would just let yourself try.
Today I read a CNN report about how shitty things are in Selma, Alabama. Well, here is some news for you: It doesn’t have to be that way.
The unemployment rate is around 20%. How can 1 in 5 people be unemployed? It makes no sense. On the front page of Tell Your Boss to Shove It there are all kinds of things anyone anywhere can do to make money.
Elsewhere in the article there was mention of how someone was making $400 a week in a cigar factory but now that they were laid off they were only getting $250 a week from unemployment. Again, this makes no sense because you can easily make way more than that just selling junk on eBay or Craig’s List.
There was also a report of how people who work for a grocery store were being limited to 32 hours a week. This is AWESOME news because that leaves them 136 hours a week to work for themselves and make some real money.
Sadly, however, I doubt that anyone in Selma will ever read this. I wish I could reach out and shake some of these people and tell them that no matter what their circumstances are, there are plenty of ways to make money. The internet makes it possible for anyone anywhere to make boatloads of cash, I just wish people would see that.
Here is an old Earl Nightingale video I thought you’d like. It is about going the extra mile to make sure that whatever you create is the best that it can be.
99.9999999 of all jobs suck. That is just a fact. But does yours? This simple quiz may help…
1) Does someone else decide your work schedule?
2) Do you report to a boss?
3) Do you punch a clock or keep track of your hours?
4) Do you need permission to go on vacation or to take time off?
5) Are you paid by the hour? Are you on a salary?
If you answered “YES” to any of these questions then your job does indeed suck. You are a wage slave. Your life probably sucks too. But you can fix it, there are plenty of ways to make money without a job, that is what this site is all about. But it is up to you – all I can do is give you ideas. Take action! Call your boss and tell him to shove his job! Take charge of your life, it is the only one you have!
